I shaped this Woolly Mammoth fossil ivory grip to preserve the natural ridges along the tusk’s inner surface. Those contours remain visible, giving the handle its distinctive texture and letting the character of the original material show.
Paired with a San Mai Damascus lock blade, this pocket knife brings together patterned steel and the individual character of ancient fossil ivory. I worked with the ivory’s existing shape rather than smoothing away the details that make this piece one of a kind.
The fossil ivory was recovered by The Boneyard Alaska. It comes from an extinct Ice Age animal, and no modern animals are harmed.

Enjoy it! Keep dry as ivory doesn't like being wet. Use a clean dry polishing cloth to buff. Treat ivory jewelry like a fine gem or fossil. No soaps or detergents. If you have any other care questions let me know. Thank you, Kristin
