Boneyard Alaska Woolly Mammoth Ivory carved Hei Matau style fish hook pendant. Proudly made using Woolly Mammoth Tusk Ivory pieces found and recovered on-site at the historic Boneyard Alaska owned by John and Ramona Reeves. One-of-a-kind.
Made from hand-carved Woolly Mammoth ivory, in the shape of an artistic fish hook, the Hei Matau embodies strength, prosperity, fertility, good luck, and safe travel over water. It's a great gift for others or for yourself. The stylized hook originates from the Maori legend of Maui, who caught a huge fish using a jawbone hook that he had crafted from his late grandmother. The Matau hook is known to bring good luck while fishing and traveling over water, and now serves as a symbol of power, authority, good health, and abundance.

Enjoy it! Treat like a fine gemstone and fossil. Wooly Mammoth Ivory is porous and will naturally absorb your body oils which is a benefit as it is nourishing and enriches colors in ivory and creates a special unity. Handling and rubbing your ivory is also calming and meditative and inspiring. Avoid water and soaps and handle with care.
