"Sea Cow" /"Manatee" Fossil Rib Bone Lock Blade Pocket Knife. Beautiful specimen fossil rib with aqua green and caramel brown mineralization tone grips. Manatee bones are very dense as they do not have bone marrow. Much harder to cut and work than Woolly Mammoth bone. I received the Sea Cow Manatee Rib from a fossil hunter and collector and thought I would make this knife with it. It makes for a great pocket knife grip.

Although not discovered at the Boneyard Alaska it is special because Sea Cows/ Manatees, elephants, woolly mammoths, and mastodons all evolved from a common ancestor. Sea Cows lived in the cold Artic waters and were huge sea mammals.

The Lock blade works nicely with a thumb press and is made with premium stainless steel blades. This rib bone was collected from a coastal Bone Hunter extraordinaire and although a bit more difficult to enjoy working with than Wooley Mammoth ivory (Manatee bone stinks to high heaven when cutting) it has some very interesting characteristics and colors and offers a sturdy grip.

Care Instructions

Enjoy it! Treat like a fine gemstone and fossil. Wooly Mammoth Ivory is porous and will naturally absorb your body oils which is a benefit as it is nourishing and enriches colors in ivory and creates a special unity. Handling and rubbing your ivory is also calming and meditative and inspiring. Avoid water and soaps and handle with care.
